One-way mirror film gives you a clear view out while people outside see a reflective mirror — but only when the light is right. Understanding that is the key to using it well.
The light-balance rule
The effect works when it's brighter on one side than the other. By day it's brighter outside, so from inside you see out, and from outside people see a mirror.
What happens at night
After dark, with your interior lights on, the balance reverses — so for night-time privacy, pair mirror film with a blind or curtain, or choose a frosted film that works both day and night.
Bonus benefits
Reflective films also reject a lot of solar heat and block 99% of UV, so they're popular on sun-facing, overlooked rooms and shopfronts.
