Solar-control glass and solar film do a similar job — cut heat and UV — but they suit different situations. For most existing buildings, film is the better-value route.
The cost difference
Replacing units with solar-control glass means new glazing, labour and disruption. Solar film upgrades the glass you already have, in a day, for a fraction of the cost.
When glass makes sense
If you're building new or already replacing windows, specifying solar glass from the start can be sensible. Otherwise you'd be throwing away perfectly good units.
Performance
High-end films reject up to 79% of solar heat and 99% of UV — comparable results to solar glass for the day-to-day problems of heat, glare and fading.
