Privacy film vs frosted glass: which is better?

If you want that soft, private, frosted-glass look — on a bathroom window, a front-door panel, an office partition or a shopfront — you've got two routes: replace the glass with frosted (acid-etched or sandblasted) units, or apply frosted film to the glass you already have. Both give privacy while keeping light; the difference is cost, flexibility and permanence.

Modern frosted film convincingly mimics sandblasted glass — the same even, obscured, milky finish that lets light through while blocking the view. Once it's fitted properly, most people genuinely can't tell whether they're looking at etched glass or film.

Film is far cheaper and faster

Film is flexible and reversible

Frosted film can be cut or printed to patterns, bands, gradients, house numbers or a company logo, so it doubles as decoration or branding. Crucially it's removable — if you redecorate, rebrand or change the room's use, the film comes off cleanly and you can start again. Etched glass is permanent: to change it, you replace the glass.

That reversibility also makes film ideal for rented and listed properties, where you can't permanently alter the glazing.

Does frosted film work in bathrooms?
