Window film installation is quick, clean and low-disruption — most jobs finish in a single day and there's no mess, no structural work and no reglazing. If you've never had film fitted, here's exactly what happens, step by step, so you know what to expect.
1. The survey
It starts before install day. We visit to measure the glass, identify the glazing type (annealed vs toughened, single/double/triple) so we can specify a film that's compatible and safe, check access, and discuss what you're trying to achieve. This is also when you choose the look — heat, privacy, frosted, mirrored — from samples. The survey is what lets us give a fixed price and avoid surprises.
2. Preparing the area
On install day we protect your floors, sills and furnishings, and clear working space at the windows. The single biggest factor in a flawless finish is cleanliness, so we meticulously clean each pane — removing dust, grease and any specks — because anything left on the glass would show under the film. This prep is unglamorous but it's where the quality comes from.
3. Applying the film
The film is cut to the pane, the glass is wetted with a slip solution (which lets us position the film precisely), and the film is laid on and squeegeed firmly from the centre outwards to push all the water and air out. Done well, this leaves a clear, bubble-free, edge-to-edge finish. Larger panes and roof glazing take more hands and care but follow the same principle.
4. Curing
Freshly fitted film needs a little time to bond and dry — the "curing" period. For a couple of weeks you may notice slight haziness or the odd tiny water pocket; this is completely normal and clears as the last moisture escapes through the film. Don't clean the film during this window and don't pick at any small pockets — they resolve on their own.
5. Aftercare
Once cured, treat filmed glass like any other window, with two rules: use a soft cloth or soft squeegee with a mild, non-abrasive cleaner (washing-up liquid in water is fine), and avoid scrapers, gritty pads and ammonia-based cleaners on certain films. That's genuinely all the maintenance quality film needs to last its 10–15+ year lifespan.
